Over the past month or so, I have invested in no less than four discs published by Air Control: Natsume Rio’s Lemon-T and Milk-T, Oda Arisa’s Convex and now Matsugane Yôko’s Chichi Shigure. Over the past month, I have been completely satisfied with every single one of my purchases from Air Control. I have no idea how long they can keep up this kind of quality output, but more power to them. If they can keep on producing things like Chichi Shigure, I’ll be a very loyal customer.

One of the reasons I’m thrilled with the disc is that it’s something quite different for Yôko compared to her pervious releases: as she says in one of the making of sections, it is definitely in the erotic category of idol releases. Chichi Shigure, while definitely not as explicit as some of her contemporaries, is certainly much more overtly suggestive that anything she has done before – just skip directly to track six if you have the disc to see what I mean. Or just keep reading, as I’ll definitely be covering it a little later on. Another huge plus is that Yôko appears to have put on some weight since she made Body Scandal – she looks a lot more curvy and voluptuous here than any of her appearances last year.

There are ten different glamour tracks on the main part of the disc, plus a rather extended making of section. The total running time is a little more than 90 minutes, so each of the tracks does run a little longer than the average idol disc. Depending on the track, this is either a blessing or a curse – there are definitely a few scenes which could have benefited from a little more editing and cutting, but surprisingly enough, the director keeps most of the tracks varied and interesting enough that there are more hits than misses.

The first track is pure, old school Yôko – sexy, playful, bikini-themed and relatively generic: in a green garden, a very beautiful Yôko in a frilly bikini fools around and flirts with the camera. If you’ve seen any of Yôko’s other DVDs, there’s nothing new here, but she looks really, really good (straight hair suits her), and a combination of Yôko’s tiny bikini and a moderately aggressive camera means some great boob/cleavage shots. The next track has Yôko walking around the narrow hallways and staircases of a house wearing some very sexy, black lingerie – the push up bra almost seems like overkill with her already gigantic bosoms. Almost. Not much actually happens here – Yôko strolls for a bit, then stops and poses while the camera zooms in and out on her breasts, then repeats ‘till the end of the scene. While definitely more than watchable (there are some drool inducing shots here), this is one of the tracks which would have worked better if it had been edited down for time a little.

The next part is when things start to get more interesting: Yôko is dressed in an outfit which consists of some garters and fishnets, heels, a micro skirt which doesn’t even cover her panties and a velvet top which, needless to say, is ridiculously low cut and shows off Yôko’s boobs. She in some kind small bar and starts to clean (and I use that word in the loosest sense possible) the stools. The camera is mostly positioned behind her, giving us shots of her bent over with her legs spread as she cleans. The next section has Yôko wiping down the bars of the iron door to the room. I know Freud said, “Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar”, but draw your own conclusions: she’s slowly rubbing hard bars up and down with her hand while making eyes at the camera, and eventually shoves her breasts through the grating, surrounding one of the bars with her magnificent mammaries while a hard driving bass line plays in the background.

For anyone who thought the last part was too subtle, the next scene is for you. Yôko starts off ‘sleeping’ in a bed with the covers pulled up. An off-screen crewmember pulls the covers down to reveal her lingerie, then proceeds to poke Yôko’s boobs with a pointer (complete with a pointer cartoon hand on its tip). She then ‘wakes up’ and feigns annoyance with poker, but, oddly, rolls over on her side (squishing her boobs together) and allows her chest to continue to be prodded for about another half minute or so. Then, Yôko is on her knees on the bed with her legs spread and proceeds to bounce up and down, all the while the disembodied, cartoon chikan hand continues it’s poking. With the camera being positioned between her legs looking up at Yôko, there’s little doubt as to what the viewer is supposed to be imagining. Having covered the cowgirl position, they take a stab at missionary in the final part of the track: Yôko is lying back down on the bed with camera positioned over her so you have a view of her upper body but not her legs. Some crewmembers are shaking the bed back and forth - the resulting bouncing and movement is… uh… thought provoking to say the least. The only real problem with this one is that Yôko has a blank expression on her face for some of the shots which kind of shatters the suspension of disbelief.

Next up - Yôko the pole dancer. Dressed in a red bikini (with a ridiculously feathered top), Yôko does a fairly provocative pole dance, gyrating and slinking around the metal post. This is one of the few scenes where the camera work is less than stellar – the shots are relatively static and unimaginative, but overall Yôko does look very fetching. Lots of attention paid to her legs and ass as opposed to her boobs in this one as well. Next up is a nice, slow and sexy scene where our goddess strips out of a skirt and white blouse to reveal a dangerously small bra, which makes her giant breasts look all that much bigger. To compound that even further, she spends a large part of the scene squishing her breasts over the top of a chair, against the side of a door… pretty much anything she can press her boobs together with, she does. At the end of the scene, she takes off her bra (her hands upping the dangling cloth over her chest), gives the camera a sexy sidelong glance then wanders out of shot up some stairs.

The next track has some of the best shots of Yôko on the disc – she’s wearing a one-piece bathing suit which absolutely accentuates all of Yôko’s womanly curves and the camera takes full advantage. To make things even better, Yôko is on her game here and really connects with the viewer – excellent eye contact and facial expressions. So why was the track a little disappointing? The pacing is exactly the same as the previous track – with the already overlong scenes, this one actually drags a little at the end despite being better than it’s predecessor. The following scene has becoming something of a cliché with recent gravure idol releases – the idol is covered in some kind of clear, highly viscous liquid, and then rubs the substance all over themselves. While this may be cliché, that doesn’t stop this from being one of the best tracks on the disc: the setting is a bathhouse of some kind and Yôko is wearing a very small, red bikini. In full vamp mode, she is not shy about rubbing herself down all over, while the camera zooms in and out (focusing on her chest a lot of the time, for obvious reasons) to great effect. The end of the scene has Yôko showering off, and continuing the trend of exploring her body, she moves the showerhead all over the place. The lighting is a little washed out on occasion due to the huge windows, but that’s nit picking.

The next part appears to have been shot in the same sento, but in the locker room, not the bath area. Yôko’s wardrobe is a little odd: a black bikini with a kind of mesh, sparkly spider-web-lloking secondary bra over that. The first part of the scene has Yôko posing in the locker area, with an annoying greyscale filter dropping in and out. Then, in a vaguely surreal turn, she’s suddenly in a dark, smoky room and does another stripper routine. Pros: Yôko is sexy, feminine and graceful in her routine and the camera is, again, excellent providing close ups, zooms and pans to get some breathtaking views of Yôko-chan. Con: the worst fucking music ever on an idol DVD. Horribly annoying euro-techno transitions to horribly annoying rap. Kill the speakers for this one and find something more appropriate from your own music collection. The final track has Yôko in a tatami room in a yukata. Given my fetish for this type of cosplay, I loved this one. Yôko has the yukata open for pretty much the entire scene, as she clutches the fabric over her tits. More objectively though, this one did drag somewhat… it’s very slow moving, and while sexy, could have used some editing for time – due to the flimsy nature of her clothes, this scene basically ends of being very static, and the camera is a little on the mundane side. The end of this track brings the running time to about 80 minutes.

The remaining quarter hour or so is the behind-the-scenes section. I’m usually pretty ambivalent about these, but this was actually very enjoyable – the photoshoot sections were quite well captured by the video camera and gives us some final, enticing looks at Yôko. The interview segments were quite enjoyable as well… Yôko appeared to be in a good mood when the disc was shot, and chats happily away with the interviewer about various things. Worth watching even if you don’t understand Japanese for the photo shoot sessions.

Although I don’t think I’d like to see Yôko go further in this direction with her career, Chichi Shigure is definitely a nice change of pace from her usual DVDs – this is one which will be stuck in your mind for some time to come. Although uneven in parts, the overall quality of the disc is very high – not does Yôko look uniformly gorgeous and sexy throughout, but the crew were all on the ball. If nothing else, Chichi Shigure shows you another side to Yôko-chan which will leave you hot and bothered.
